Calling ALL Celiacs...

7:41:00 AM

Good Morning!

I know Mondays aren't always a favorite, but I hope you are all making the best of it! It's a gloomy, rainy day here in Northern Illinois which is perfect for meal prep (that should have been done Sunday... whoops). Meal prepping lately has been MUCH smoother and healthier due to my favorite Christmas gift this year: Jennifer's Way Kitchen Cookbook.

If you know a Celiac, especially someone newly diagnosed, please consider gifting this book. Not only does it have killer recipes, but each one has additional information on how the particular goodie heals your gut based on the specialized ingredients it calls for. The very beginning has loads of information on where to start with your kitchen and how to approach a new diagnosis of celiac. The first few recipes are tonics and smoothies that are anti-inflammatory and delicious. If someone has been recently glutened or is experiencing discomfort, use the first half of the cookbook. Jennifer has made the entire first section completely grain, allergen and night-shade free. Looking to treat yourself because you are feeling great and would enjoy some tasty, homemade bread or pastry? No problem. Looking for a light, gluten free pasta dish? She's got it.

Basically what I'm saying is this: If I had this cookbook when I was first diagnosed, I would have cried happy tears of utter relief. This is the auto-immune disease holy grail and there is no other cookbook out there like it.

Celiac Disease is an OVERWHELMING diagnosis. It turns your life upside down. You go from living your life to cringing every time you look at your kitchen that is now sprinkled with little flecks of intestine-damaging powder. I was blessed enough to have a husband who had the kitchen wiped down with Clorox wipes before I got home from work the day I received my diagnosis. Not everyone is that lucky - they have to tackle it alone. Get rid of all pots and pans, cutting boards, utensils, mixers, YOU NAME IT. If wheat, barley, or rye touched it, it has potential to wreck you from the inside out.

I hope this sheds some light onto both the damage celiac disease causes as well as how to help yourself or someone close to you who has been diagnosed. Shout out to my eldest little bro for this amazing Christmas gift! You win this year in the gift department.
